About Jami, your pediatric nurse photographer
Jami has always had an intense love for children. From helping raise her younger brothers to always being the one holding babies at family gatherings, caring for little ones has always been second nature to her. With over 28 years of experience as a pediatric nurse, Jami brings a deep understanding of child development and the ability to connect with kids of all ages. Now, as a Salt Lake City children’s photographer, she combines that passion with her creative eye to capture meaningful milestones—whether it’s a baby’s first year, a playful childhood stage, or the exciting senior year of high school.
Jami knows how to communicate with toddlers, put older kids at ease, and bring out the genuine personality of teens who might otherwise shy away from the camera. The result? Frequently asked questions about children's photography in Salt Lake County
Where are children's photography sessions done?
Children's photography sessions take place in my children's photography studio in Sandy, the heart of Salt Lake County. Easy access from I-15 between the 9000 S and 10600 S exits. After booking a photo session, you will receive details about the location and address of the studio.
Children's photography sessions can also be done in a carefully selected location across the Wasatch Front. ​​
When should I book children's photos?
One of the best stages to photograph your growing baby is when they are sitting up unassisted but before they are crawling. This usually is around 6-7 months. Then of course between 10-12 months for a cake smash/birthday session (see the service page with all the info about those fun sessions)!
Some parents celebrate each birthday with a photo session, while others like to book a session to mark a milestone like preschool or kindergarten graduation, dance recitals, sports programs, baptisms, losing a first tooth, etc. Please try to reach out at least one month before you need photos!
For seniors, I recommend reaching out the summer between their junior and senior year and we can plan for our session. For all other milestones, I recommend contacting me at least a few weeks before your desired session date. ​​

How do I prepare for my children's photography session?
​
When you book a photography session, we will plan a custom session together, discussing backdrop options as well as outfit and styling suggestions. You will receive my preparation guide that will walk you through how to prepare for your child's photos. From what to wear, what to bring, and what to expect, the guide is comprehensive and will help you relax knowing all of the tiny details are taken care of!

Do I need to bring outfits?
I recommend no more than 2 outfits for your child during this session, with high school seniors being the exception. I do have a small client closet of outfits for 6-18 month sizing, and a small collection of dresses for older girls, but otherwise you will need to bring clothing options for your older child. I am happy to help suggest clothing that will photograph well!​​
What if my child won't cooperate for a photo session?

I have many children's photography clients that are amazed at the beautiful photos I get, even when their child was crawling or running away, or less than cooperative (because, let's face it, what toddler is perfectly cooperative??). I am very good with babies and children, and I even have a few tricks up my sleeve! I promise to do everything in my power to capture beautiful photos worthy of placing on your walls! As long as you follow my prep guide and make sure your child is well rested and fed, we should be able to get beautiful photos.

Do you provide a cake for birthday sessions?
​
The only session that I provide a cake for is 1 year old cake smash photos (see separate service page for that!). If you would like to bring a cupcake for your child's birthday photos you are welcome to do so. ​

Can family be included in the child's photos?
​
My studio is quite small, and due to the amount of space different setups takes, a full family photo might not be possible. Please discuss this with me when we plan your session! For outdoor sessions, I am happy to include your family for photos.

How much does a photography session cost? ​
​
My sessions start with a session fee that varies depending on the type of children's photography session you need. The session fee includes:

the time and talent of the photographer

the sanitizing, setup and cleanup for the session

a small print credit
This does NOT include the unedited or edited digital images. You may use your print credit to purchase a collection of digital images, prints, albums, or products. Digital images are $50 each. Most of my clients spend $350-750 on milestone sessions and around $600-$1200 on a high school senior photography session. A full product price list is available before booking. Why is professional children's photography so expensive?
​
As the owner of a professional children's photography studio, I have spent thousands on education, equipment, lighting, backdrops, outfits, and props. I also spend many hours planning and preparing for the session. Creating a custom session for your child is an art that I absolutely love, but it does take time. The quality backdrops I purchase for my studio are $250-$400 each. My images are hand retouched to deliver you high quality artwork, which takes time. If you are looking for a inexpensive, quick photographer that throws a filter on each image and delivers images the same day, I might not be the right photographer for you.
